Amy and Jack's Memorial Day Weekend Getaway to Georgia
Chapter 4 - Black Rock Mountain State Park
Rabun County, GA
Saturday, May 28th, 2011
While it doesn't actually contain the highest point in Georgia, Black Rock Mountain State Park is the highest State Park in Georgia.

Since it is less than a mile from our Bed and Breakfast, we decided to check it out. Amy had already reached her maximum hiking limit for the day, so we pretty much just checked out some of the overlooks, which offered up some excellent views!

There were also loads of wildflowers blooming along side the road.

This time of year it doesn't get dark until after 9:00pm, so after dinner I still had plenty of daylight to do some more exploring around the park. Amy elected to stay back at the Bed and Breakfast with her book.
Back inside Black Rock Mountain State Park, I discovered that a month ago (April 27th, 2011) the park was hit by severe storms including a Tornado (more on the area tornados later). Almost every hiking trail inside the park was closed due to storm damage.
I wasn't that dissappointed since I really didn't have that much time left in the day. I ended up just doing the mile long loop hike around Black Rock Lake. This was a very easy, but pleasant hike.

I would definitely like to get back and check out some more of the Black Rock Mountain
SP hiking trails in the future!

You missed a really good waterfall there.
This was the very first place Carole and I stayed when we took our Casita travel trailer out for its initial outing.
