Grandfather Mountain Wildlife

Grandfather Mountain, NC
Friday, August 19th, 2011

There are a number of Bears that roam wild around Grandfather Mountain, however it is rare that you will actually encounter one.

If you do want to see a bear, you can check out the Grandfather Mountain Animal Habitats where they currently have (5) Bears.  Even in the Habitats, they tend to hide from view much of the time, but on Friday I got lucky enough to get a few Bear Photos:

Also in the Animal Habitats are a pair of Otters, which I think are really cute.

There is also a heard of Deer in the Habitats, but you really don't need to visit the Habitats to see Deer.  There are plenty roaming wild around the Mountain.  In fact, you need to be on the lookout while driving around so you don't accidentally hit one.

There are plenty of other critters to see around the mountain.  I spotted this guy while hiking the Black Rock trail late Friday Afternoon.
Bunny!

This is the closest I have ever gotten to a bunny in the wild!

I'll post some additional Grandfather Mountain Wildlife photos after I go through my shots from Saturday!

I love Grandfather Mountain and I hate Grandfather Mountain. The peak itself is one of the single greatest mountains on the east coast of North America. But what has been done to it is a crime. The auto road to the summit should be utterly destroyed. The buildings and zoo, etc. should likewise be dismantled for the abominations that they are.
