Toxaway Gamelands Adventure and a
Whitewater Falls Super Pink Moonrise
with Captain John and Darrin the Salmon Hamlin
Transylvania County, NC
Tuesday, April 27th, 2021
Captain John, the Salmon, and I did some exploring deep inside the Toxaway Gamelands to check out some off trail waterfalls on Robinson Branch and Bear Creek. Kevin Adams briefly mentions these in his Third Edition of "North Carolina Waterfalls" on page 262.
We also had a few old cemetery sights and the remains of a burnt schoolhouse we were hoping to find.
No luck finding the cemetery sights or the burnt schoolhouse, and the waterfalls on Robinson Branch and Bear Creek were not worth the hellacious bushwhacking required to get there. We still had a great time crawling through the rhododendrons and briers!

Afterwards we decided to hike down to Sidepocket Falls on the Horsepasture River which more than made up for any waterfall disappointments earlier in the day! I also enjoyed my first swim of the season in the chilly but very refreshing Horsepasture River!

Afterwards Darrin and I set up camp at a top secret campsite near the top of Whitewater Falls. The highlight of the day was watching the Super Pink Moon rise from the top of Whitewater Falls!

Time for the Safety Dance!
The next morning I made a visit the Whitewater Falls tourist overlook before any tourists arrived.
