Black Bear

Yesterday morning I had my closest encounter ever with a Black Bear.  I only managed to get one shot before it darted off into the woods, but it turned out to be my best shot ever of a Black Bear in the wild.

That is a good photo. Hope you had a somewhat long lens at least.

very nice where was it and how many feet were you. I have yet to see one other than running across the road in front of my car twice.

This was in Shenandoah National Park, VA. The shot was taken at 170mm zoom and I cropped about 50% of the photo out making it the equivalent of about 340mm. I would guess I was about 50 yards away.

Good steady hand at that distance. I drove through Shenandoah in the spring but only saw several deer.

It was kind of dark, so I had to crank the ISO up to 1600 in order to get the shutter speed I needed.
