2012-06-01 Grandfather Mountain - Day 1

Grandfather Mountain Nature Photography Weekend
Day 1
Friday, June 1st, 2012

I rolled into the campground and spotted Joe and Susan were already set up in our usual spot.  Almost immediately after stepping out of my truck the rain started.  This wasn't just a sprinkle, but one of those storms that dropped about an inch of rain in about a half hour.

Thankfully Susan had a canopy already set up which the three of us huddled underneath.  The rain eventually let up giving us the opportunity to head out and take some photos.  What didn't let up was the wind!  50 mph winds on the mountain top is not an exaggeration and made photography very challenging!  I learned that my cheap, lightweight tri-pod is useless in these types of conditions!

I am not going to write a detailed trip report, but instead just share some of my shots.

So let's see ... when you're at waterfalls, the sun shines all over the place, and when you're camping, it rains!!

Utterly gorgeous pictures in the set on webshots ... those sky pictures are incredible. Really like #24, 25, and 26.
