Riley Moore Falls

Amy and Jack's Memorial Day Weekend Getaway to Georgia

Chapter 14 - Riley Moore Falls
Oconee County, SC
Memorial Day Monday, May 30th, 2011

For the final stop of our weekend getaway I decided on Riley Moore Falls

Riley Moore Falls

Directions (from Westminster, SC):
1. Head West on US76 for about 7.5 miles and turn right on Cobb Bridge Road.
2. Drive 1.4 miles on Cobb Bridge Road and turn left onto Spy Rock Road. (Note: there was no road sign during our visit, but it is the only road on the left anywhere near the 1.4 mile mark.
3. Drive 1.8 miles on Spy Rock Road and look for FS748C on the right

If you have a standard passenger vehicle, you will probably want to park here, but if you have something with good ground clearance you can drive FS748C for about a half mile to a small parking area just before the trail head. If the road is wet, you will probably need 4-wheel drive as well.

The hike from here is about 0.6 miles and a steady downhill to the base of Riley Moore Falls. It's a little over a mile (one way) and includes a much steeper section if you have the hike the whole way in on FS748C.

Riley Moore Falls is about a 15-foot drop over the entire width of the Chauga River. It reminds me of Hooker Falls in DuPont State Forest.

The bright sun shining directly on the waterfall did not make for optimum photos, but some of them turned out OK
