Lake McDonald Morning

Lake McDonald Morning
Glacier National Park
Sunday, August 28th, 2011

Our internal clocks must have still been on Eastern Time because we were up and eager to go well before sunrise.  I took a couple of morning twilight shots of Lake Five before departing our cabin at the Lake Five Resort.

Our plan for the day would be to drive across the park on the "Going-to-the-Sun Road".  But before that we made a stop for breakfast at the Apgar Village area on Lake McDonald.

Lake McDonald is the largest lake inside Glacier National Park and with a fairly calm morning I thought it would make for a good photo opportunity.  While Amy explored some of the little gift shops, I pulled out the camera and tri-pod for some nice Morning Shots of Lake McDonald.

After our nice visit at Lake McDonald we hit the "Going-to-the-Sun Road".  Despite the light early morning traffic, we soon came upon a line of cars stopped ahead of us.  It didn't take long to realize what the delay was about.

A Bear was strolling down the center of the road!  I wasn't about to get stupid and exit the safety of our vehicle so I attempted a few shots through the windshield.  They all turned out lousy and by the time the cars ahead of us cleared out, the Bear was off into the woods and out of sight.

Coming up tomorrow:  More on the "Going-to-the-Sun Road"

Can't really tell what kind of bear that is. Looks like a black bear from behind, but it's impossible to say.

Lake McDonald is Glacier National Park's biggest lake; ten miles long and 472 feet deep. Filling a basin gouged out by Ice Age glaciers.
