The Acorn

We have a bunch of Oak Trees in our yard, and this time of year they shower the ground with thousands of Acorns.  So for today's photo, I decided to focus on the Oak Tree Seed; The Acorn.

Have you ever seen an Overcup acorn? Those things are GIGANTIC!

I've never heard of an Overcup Acorn, so if I have seen one, I would not have known what it was. I would have probably just called it a Big Ass Acorn!

There's one on one of the routes in the station. The carrier who has that route always brings us acorns when they're dropping from the tree. I'd hate to get hit with one. Those things could kill!

were you aware that Oak trees don't produce acorns until they are at least 50 years old?

Thanks Everyone! No I was not aware that Oak Trees didn't produce Acorns until they are at least 50 years old! We definitely have some Big-ums in our yard! Not looking forward to when they start dumping their leaves!
